Care to suit residents' specific needs
Tracey House is a retirement home catering for 24 Residents over the age of 65.
We are not a nursing home and cannot admit any individual who requires such care. However, if a resident’s needs increase to the level of nursing care while they are living with us, we would endeavour to look after that individual so long as this was their wish. We would require the support and agreement of their family/friends, GP and District Nurses.
Physical well-being of residents
As a general principle we care for our Residents on an individual basis and collectively only when appropriate. To this effect the prospective resident’s needs can be specifically assessed and a plan of care drawn up in consultation with each resident wherever possible. This is reviewed on a regular basis with allocated staff to encourage both continuity and quality of care.
It is our policy to help all Residents to manage their own medication if possible.
We make every effort to develop good relations with the local Health Centre and we welcome visits from many professionals as part of the Health Care Team. These include the General Practitioner, District Nurse, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Chiropodist, Dietician, Dentist and Optician. Whenever necessary they are called promptly or transport provided to the Health Centre or relevant clinic.
The Hairdresser visits every week and there is the opportunity to use this service if required.
We provide a full laundry service.
Tracey House is always maintained in a homely way. Individual rooms are tidied daily and thoroughly cleaned weekly. Where appropriate Residents are helped in this respect if that is their choice.

We are aware that staff are the ‘Creators of Care’ and their attitude, understanding and skill will have a profound effect on the quality of life of the Residents. We all recognise the value of a family unit and teamwork to create a happy and pleasant atmosphere within the Home.
We are proud of our excellent, loyal team of staff whose commitment, experience and knowledge of each individual resident enhances the quality of care provided.
Potential staff are interviewed by two members of the Management Team through which previous experience, training, personality and experience of life are taken into account.
We always follow up two references, check qualifications and new staff are confirmed in post only following a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check. Staff contracts include a 3 month probationary period.
Tracey House operates an induction system and new members of staff initially work under supervision. Training is of paramount importance and is a continual process, supervised by the Management Team. Staff meetings and senior staff meetings are held regularly. Every staff member has an annual performance review, care staff have supervision interviews every two months.
We maintain links with the South Devon College and are fully aware of the current courses available in the Care Profession.
Tracey House has been registered as a Residential Care Home with Devon County Council since 1983. We were accredited by Devon County Council in 1993. We are members of the National Care Association. From 1st April 2002, we registered with the National Care Standards Commission, which became the Commission for Social Care Inspection in April 2004. We are currently registered with the Care Quality Commission which came into force in 2010 and work to the essential standards of quality and safety laid out by them.
There are four Proprietors and a Registered Manager is employed. We are in regular contact with our residents, their families and friends. Therefore, we are able to solicit their views and opinions on all matters concerning the operation of the home. Alterations can then be made quickly and efficiently in consultation with our staff.
